History of the Department of Law
Department of Law, University of Myitkyina was established in 1998. The undergraduate legal program was started from 1999-2000 Academic year. In December 2004, the first batch LL.B (Bachelor of Law) has been conferred at the fourth convocation ceremony of the University of Myitkyina. Professor, Associate Professor, Lecturer, Assistant Lecturer and Tutor have been appointed. In 2016, two Lecturers and two assistant lecturers of Department of Law, University of Myitkyina were sent to attend the PhD Program at Southwest University of Political Science and Law (SWUPL), Chongqing, China. Master Program has been begun in 2017-2018 Academic year.

Research Interests:
In Myanmar, Civil Law system is fundamentally based on the English Common Law tradition, which was inherited from the British colonial period and codified in British India. It is governed by the combination, which contain general common law principles and customary practices.

The Study of International Law and Constitutional Law, especially armed conflict and world constitutions. The interest involves the study of relationship between political State, institutional building and State building. And also, how to settle international disputes during in time of peace and in time of war.
