History of the Department of Geology

The Department of Geology was founded in 1963 as part of the University of Mandalay. Teaching of Geology began as minor subject for the fourth year Geography in 1995. The teaching of Geology major started in 2000, when Degree Collage of Myitkyina was upgraded to University of Myitkyina.

Mission
  • The Geology Department will develop in each student, critical thinking, initiative and necessary skill to be lifelong students of Earth Science.
  • We teach the geological concepts integral to competent engineering practices, environmental conservation and mineral explorations.
Vision

The Geology Department of University of Myitkyina generates to provide the completed quality students and expansion of our educational, research and outreach programs in order to produce well-trained, competent, academic and professional geologists.
