History of the Department of Zoology

During  Myitkyina Premises College, Daw Kyi Kyi (1966-1968), Assistant Lecturer was the first head of Biology Department. On 22 May 1968, Myitkyina Premises College was promoted to the Myitkyina College. Formally, the Zoology and Botany are under the Biology Department and later Zoology became the separate department in 1974. At that time of the head was Assistant Lecturer Daw Khin Htwe Myint and she continued till 1977.On 23 May 1977, Myitkyina College was changed to Kachin State Regional College.During 1977-1986, Lecturer U Khin Maung Gyi was appointed as the head of the Department who was acted from Kachin State Regional to Myitkyina Degree College. Daw Naw Than Kyein acted as head of the Department till 1988 who was the first Professor of Zoology Department. During 1988-1990 Professor Dr Mya Mya Nu was charged as the head of the Department. At 1990 Professor, U Aung Maaung became as the head of the Department till 1994. On 20 February 1998, Myitkyina Degree College was promoted to Myitkyina University. During 1994-1999 Professor U Tun Aung, 1999-2001 Professor Daw Khin Hnin Wai,2001-2003 Professor U Than Nyunt, 2003 Associate Professor Dr Thidar Kyaw, 2003-2007 Professor Daw May Kyi Tun, 2007-2009 Professor Dr Naw Dolly Wilbur, 2009-2012 Professor Dr Khin Soe Win, 2012-2015 Professor Dr Ester Kyaw Soe, 2015-2018 Professor Dr Naw Cillia Lynn Bert, 2018 Professor Dr San San Myint. The Present Head of Professor of Department is Dr Tin Moe Win. The Classes for degree of B,Sc,B.Sc(Hons.), M.Sc have been produced.
