History of the Department of Myanmar
The Department of Myanmar at Myitkyina University is located in the Ayeyarwaddy Building (3). Previously, at the degree college level, the Department of Myanmar was situated on the upper floor of the main building. Over time, it progressed from Myitkyina College, Kachin State Community College, Myitkyina Degree College to Myitkyina University. Up to the present, successive heads of the department, professors, and professors (heads of department) have dedicated their energy and efforts to the development of the Department of Myanmar. Senior teachers U Tin Myint, U Win Maung, U Tin Htun, senior female teachers Daw Khin Thein, Dr. Cho Mar Lar, Dr. Nwe Ni Tin, Dr. Tu Tu, Dr. San Htun, Dr. May Myo Hla, together with the current professor and head of department Dr. Hla Aung, have led and strived to promote the progress of Myanmar literature, the Myanmar language, and Myanmar culture. Thanks to their efforts, the prestige of the Myanmar language has been greatly enhanced. Under the leadership of Professor Dr. May Myo Hla, the previously cramped older department has been relocated to the current Ayarwaddy Building (3), allowing the Myanmar Language Department Library and Myanmar Language Exhibition Hall to be expanded and newly opened.
Mission
- To teach Myanmar literature and language-related subjects.
- To encourage reading research papers for the development and promotion of indigenous literature and languages
- To document field activities for the development of ethnic literature and languages
- To document the cultural traditions of ethnic groups to prevent them from disappearing
- To hold occasional literary exchange events and paper reading sessions
Vision
- The development and flourishing of Burmese literature and language, Burmese culture, along with the literature, language, and cultural traditions of the ethnic groups.
