Mission
Myitkyina University Library mainly aims to take education, to support the teaching, learning, research and other knowledge. It is trying to provide efficiently in bringing up highly qualified teachers. The library is to cater information resources to meet the needs of its users during their curricular and aid the teaching programme of its society.
Using the Library
- Please do not speak loudly in the library area
- Smoking is strictly prohibited in all areas of the library
- Reference books are not to be taken out of the library, but you can photocopy pages from the books.
- If the books are lost, then the borrower shall replace the books of the same edition or latest edition or pay triple cost of the book after getting permission from the librarian.
- Materials borrowed should be returned on or before the due date stamped, if returned late overdue fine will be charged for the delayed period.
University of Myitkyina students are invited to volunteer in the library. They help the library services. The work undertaken by volunteers includes
- Circulation and shelving
- Processing books
- Periodical section
Myitkyina University Library is opened from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM, on Monday to Friday. And also circulation time is opened from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM. It is closed on gazette holidays. The users are allowed to use the library serve hours a day.
University of Myitkyina faculty, student and staff are entitled to membership of the University of Myitkyina Library. New members will need to register at the University of Library counter by completing a registration form. The following documentation is also required.

Library users who have not registered as members can access the library and look at books available, but cannot borrow any books.
Once registered, members will be given book borrowing cards. Each card enables borrowing one book at one time. The numbers of cards provided and the loan period at tached to each card is set out in the following table.

Scanning, copying and printing facilities and the following services are available in the library.
- Scanning is available for everyone ( and saves paper)
- Black & white printing is available only for Myitkyina University Library Members

Myitkyina University Library collects (20) titles of Myanmar and English periodicals. There are (15) titles in Myanmar and (5) titles in English. Moreover, the library houses three titles of newspapers, two in Myanmar and one in English. Myanmar newspapers are the Mirror Daily and the Myanmar Alinn Daily and English newspaper is the Global New Light of Myanmar.
To make good selection decisions regarding electronic materials, you will first need to gather a group of titles with view information using both a local and global information perspective. In the electronic era, the library acquires electronic resources such as CD-ROMs, DVDs. The CD-ROMs make it possible to provide library users with greatly expanded, audio-visual handful text. With all the advantages of online databases, CD-ROMs are not yet extinct and they are strictly in-house resources. The library acquires 1222 CD-ROMs for its users. Moreover, the library collects 7 video-tapes, 92 cassette tapes and 2 maps.

Background History of Myitkyina University Library
Myitkyina Intermediate College was established in (15.7.1963). It was located at No. 9 Basic Education State High School in Myitkyina.
At the beginning of Intermediate College, there was no separate library. Academic departments collected the books those they needed for departmental use, and kept them at the relevant departments. In 1966, Myitkyina Intermediate College had been moved and opened a building which is three miles far away from inner Myitkyina.
Since (5.12.1966), U Gum Jawng took responsibility Librarian duties and a small lab room (at present Chemistry Department) was occupied for library. Then the books those were being kept at the academic departments were recollected and enter own books, catalogue systematically and kept them at the library. And then the library moved from small room to more spacious room (at present staff room), and then moved again to room No. 36, it was situated at the upper story of main building, its measures were 60 feet long and 30 feet wide. This new two story library building was pledged in (10.2.1994). The measurements of this building were 120 feet long and 40 feet wide. The library had been moved to this building in (6.3.2000). Due to U Gum Jawng’s withdrawal from librarian in (30.9.1979), the principle U Sum Lut Naw directed to from library supervisory committee, and it is formed and it carried out the tasks of library continuously. Daw Mya Kyaing (Head, Assistant Lecturer, Philosophy Department) from 1980 to 1981, U Aung Myint (Head of History Department) from 1980 to 1984, Daw Naw Tin Htay (Head of Political Science Department) in (1984-1985) academic year, undertook responsibility as chairpersons of library supervisory committee. For development of library, the tasks of library were carried out by assistances of committee member teaching staff and student. In (9.7.1985), U Thein Shwe was assigned the vacant post of library Assistant Grade-1 at Myitkyina Degree College Library. In (31.10.1988), U Thein Shwe transferred to Yangon Workers’ College Library, the works of library were carried out by junior staffs. In (14.11.1991), the library supervisory and library planning committees were formed. Dr. Maung Kyaw (Associate Professor, Chemistry Department) was the head of library supervisory committee Daw N Ja Bang (Head, Assistant Lecturer, Department of Philosophy) was head of library planning committee. The teaching staff were included for serving of library works. In 1993, Daw Nyunt Nyunt Wai (Professor, Head of History Department) became the head of library supervisory committee. Daw Ni Ni Ko (Library Assistant-2), Daw Than Than Htwe (Library Assistant-3), Daw Teresa (Library (helper), U Kyaw Thu (Lower Clark) carry out the works of library. In (26.1.1994), Daw Myint Myint transfers from Mandalay University Library to Myitkyina Degree College Library as Librarian Grade-2. In (30.9.1994), Library Committee was reformed. U Hla Myint (Professor, Head of Physics Department) was chairperson and Daw Myint Myint (Librarian Grade-2) was secretary and nine members included in library committee. In (13.6.1996) Daw Myint Myint was transferred to Dagon University. The following table exposes the names and designations of Librarian. The duration of their responsible duties are also revealed.
